Add space, light & value with an expert Velux conversion
-
Velux conversions are a simpler type of loft conversion and involve rooflights (aka skylights) being inserted into your roof which otherwise remains unchanged. They are named after the popular Velux brand of rooflights but there are other well-known manufacturers as well.
Unlike other conversion types, Velux conversions have a more limited impact on your roof and typically involve less work, cause less disruption and cost less. However, they do not impact the width or height of your roof, so you benefit mainly through the influx of light and extra ventilation.
-
In recent years, a wide range of new rooflights has become available including top hung, flat roof, multiple pane and conservation windows. This has opened up many exciting new conversion possibilities increasing the attractiveness of Velux conversions.
Planning permission is not generally required. However, there are some practical considerations. Your roof would normally be expected to have a pitch of at least 15 degrees. Also, as with other conversion types, a minimum height of 2.2m from your existing loft floor to the ridge of your roof is required.
